Re: Publicity via the LWN

The first of your templates seems complete enough for the LWN submission,
but what I had in mind was a template for the announcement so I could
write procmail rules to automatically compile these into a report.

For example, years ago we used a template to announce software changes
among a large group of developers where only some had access to CVS and
where we needed to update only select packages so as not to upset other
work. We classified our emails with rules for the subject line which
enabled us to use automated filters to update critical components while
alerting the recipient for other messages. You might also compare this
to the format used by fm.announce or c.o.l.a. to format their
announcements.

Thus, what I'd want to receive would be of the form:

From: Connan the Librarian <ldp-librarian@ldp.org>
Subject: [LDP:NEW] LDP-Announce-HOWTO

Document: LDP-Announce-HOWTO

DocType: howto
Abstract: This is a brief guide to how the librarian at the LDP should send me the announcements so I can train a robot to post the announcments to LWP and perhaps even c.o.l.a. even when I am otherwise pre-occupied by my lame attempts to keep myself employed. Notice that this line is all on one line.

Certainly this could be rendered in an XML; this would be more
flexible, but would also complicate the parsing program and may take
more time to cobble than I have to spare. Simple keyword:value pairs
are easy to parse in Perl and I can use perl to stuff these into MySQL
where I can then run a cron job to pull them out and post them in time
for the LWN deadlines.

Obviously, if the To address is in the ldp.org domain, once I have a
fully automated system, we can move this to the LDP servers and I will
be out of (another) job ;)
